When a bunch of interstellar scavengers approach Earth intending to abduct a few dozen humans and sell them into slavery in the darkest, they make the mistake of picking on Steve Stuart and his friends, ex-military veterans all. Unprepared for humans who can actually fight, unaware of the true capabilities of their stolen starships, the scavengers rapidly lose control of the ship - and their lives.
To Steve the captured starship represents a great opportunity, one to establish a new civilization away from Earth and its increasingly oppressive bureaucracy. But with the aliens plotting their revenge and human factions suspicious of the new technology, it will be far from easy to create a whole new world….

People say the author basically RAMS his politicl views into the readers ears, but they aparently they’re not sure in which direction they go??
Are they libertarian or conservative? I’ve seen it described as either one.

Overlap1783, Goodreads seems to come down heavily on it being rightwing in a USA GOP kind of a way. Donald Trump probably thinks this is real life, and is going to make it mandatory in US schools.

Read the first book. It was very libertarian but with right wing philosophy too (men are head of the household and women are subservient to them). Typical right wing story: Tall, down on his luck, Ex-military guy (and friends) gets a spaceship and uses it to impose their will because he is the most moral. It feels like a fantasy written by lonely, powerless guy in reaction to the Obama and wokeness. Couldn’t finish it as the writer focused on forcing his political views down your throat than writing a good story.

Okay. On the one hand, at least it seems to not be woke garbage. On the other hand, with the exception of Starship Troopers (which invented it’s OWN system of government that differed from my own country’s in only two very important particulars and fully justified doing so with a fictional history that explained how it happened) I have never been fond of books that try to tell you how to think.
That said, there is a distressing tendency for the right to stay where it is and the left to rush ever leftwards, to the point that yesterday’s leftists are in very real danger of becoming tomorrow’s right wing extremists simply by not changing their views. This is a dire problem in my country and because of this I do suspect that what this series may be is NOT right wing at all but simply… well… what normal people would call reasonable. Not intending to be political at all.
Jury is out until I actually have a chance to listen to or read the book though. As long as it’s not woke, if it justifies itself and is, you know, a STORY and not propaganda then… No problem regardless of what form government takes. It is FICTION, after all…

what exactly is ‘woke’ referring to? been hearing this for a few years now and I am beginning to believe people that use this word disparagingly don’t even really know what it means, other than anything that makes them feel uncomfortable or that threatens their limited world view.

“Woke” is used by right-wing ideologists to disparage actually reasonable ideology like: Don’t hate-crime on LGBTQ+, don’t make the poorer poorer … so yeah, stuff that makes them uncomfortable. That’s all; uncomfortable. That’s why they do the “veiled” systemic hate-crimes.
Well, that’s it for the normal people, the sheep. The rich are doing it to get more political power because their dick is too small for morals.

Good series with original storyline and strong characters.
Unlike other series each book is “fresh” and does not just continue the same storyline with the same characters but an now even stronger enemy.

I made it an hour in and deleted the audiobook.
It was bad, pure low-IQ garbage.
